Tuesday, May 6, 2008 - Swiss Heritage in Green County, Wisconsin - The 2008 WATA Spring Tour takes us to Green  County where its Swiss heritage is represented through its businesses, festivals, foods, and museums.  The owners of these tourist-oriented attractions are excited to share their success stories with you.  You’ll get to  learn and ask questions about their businesses, and still have time to look around.                                                                                                                               Print a Registration Form

Brennan’s Country Farm Markets—Brennan’s started in 1942 with a fruit stand in Monroe.  Later, they expanded with stores in Madison and Brookfield, and a cheese storage  facility in New Glarus.  Brennan’s specializes in selling premium fruits and vegetables, cheese, sausage, micro beers, and wines.  They buy their products direct from suppliers locally and  from all over the world.

Green County Welcome Center / Green County Historic Cheesemaking CenterLocated in a restored railroad depot, the museum welcomes visitors with a replica cheese factory, along with artifacts and photos that trace the Swiss heritage of the area.

Turner Hall Founded by Swiss immigrants in 1868 as a gymnasium and community center, Turner Hall still hosts concerts, dances, receptions and meals.   We will have lunch at Turner Hall.

Brenda’s Blumenladen in New Glarus is a full-service floral shop, a unique gift store that changes with the seasons, and the area’s most complete garden   center.  They also sell on the internet.

Maple Leaf Cheese and Chocolate Haus sells cheese, chocolate, fudge, candy, sausage, coffee, ice cream, jams,  cookies, wine, and gourmet items         specializing in individual customer service.

DIRECTIONS -  Monroe is located 40 south of Madison.  From Highway 69 / Highway 11, follow Highway 69 into Monroe.   This becomes 7th Ave.  Follow to Eighth Street.  Brennan’s Farm Market, is near the intersection at 701 Eighth St., Monroe, Wisconsin.  Meet at the store at 10:00 am.  You will travel by car to each stop.
