Orchard Country Winery & Market

Winery in a Restored Dairy Barn

Bill and Ruth Lautenbach purchased the family farm in 1955 and raised 3 children along with caring for 75 milking cows and acres of cherry orchard.

Their eldest son Robert (Bob) Lautenbach and his family took over the farm in the mid 70's and established a roadside market in 1975. The dairy barn was restored and became the working winery in 1985. The Lautenbach family recently added estate-grown grape wines to their offerings, with these wines named after their three grandchildren.

Schuster's Farm

Schuster's Playtime Farm blends nature, agriculture and pure entertainment in a manner uniquely its own. Our centennial round barn is a sight to behold and stories of its past capture the attention of kids (young and old). The rolling hills, woods and cropland make a wagon ride to the pumpkin patch about more than just getting a pumpkin. It gives our guests the opportunity to sit back, take a deep breath of the country air and relax. Our "backyard" feels like a bustling county fair from shooting cannons to pig races to feeding the goats plus gobs of activities you've just never quite experienced this way before. The smells and tastes of fall abound at the farm with our own cider donuts, hand-dipped caramel apples, farm-made apple crisp and pumpkin cake and fresh fudge. October isn't just for the daytime crowd though either. For years now, Schuster's Haunted Forest has been THE outdoor haunt attraction in south central Wisconsin-from the wagon ride to the heart stopping walk through the forest. Our Fall Festival season runs mid-September through October. We also host private engagements--weddings, parties, field trips, company picnics, and birthdays from May through October.

The National Children's Center for Rural and Agricultural Health and Safety (NCCRAHS) strives to enhance the health and safety of all children exposed to hazards associated with agricultural work and rural environments (www.marshfieldclinic.org/nccrahs). NCCRAHS projects and research initiatives include a wide variety of topics such as agritourism, safe play areas on farms, and work guidelines for hired youth and youth working on family farms. Working with a broad group of stakeholders, NCCRAHS staff developed agritourism health and safety guidelines and easy-to-use checklists to help agritourism operators manage health and safety on the farm. Continuing to work with agritourism operators and other stakeholders, NCCRAHS also created the new website, Integrating Safety into Agritourism (www.safeagritourism.com). This website contains a variety of walkthrough scenarios based on different topics (corn mazes, hay rides, animal safety, etc.), to help owners identify health and safety hazards on their operations. The website also provides resources that can be used to fix these hazards. It's a great tool that can be used to help keep visitors safe when they visit farms and ranches.

Welcome to a time traveling adventure through the rural Midwestern 1800s and early 1900s. Period-clad interpreters plow the fields, work the blacksmith's forge and prepare meals on wood-fired stoves--just like Wisconsin's original settlers. The ten working farmsteads, organized by immigrant ethnic group, are stocked with heritage breeds of animals; many feature heirloom gardens. At Life on the Farm you can put on a pair of wooden barn shoes and help the farmer or farm wife do chores. Catch Wheel Fever!, an interactive 1890s cycling experience, is now open. Adults and children may ride reproduction tricycles, visit a simulated 1890s bicycle repair shop and have photo taken aboard a high wheeler for a fun, family friendly experience. Time Travelers Adventure Camps and Heritage Arts Workshops allow children and adults to try hands-on activities and crafts. Meuer Farm

Chilton, WI
Meuer Farm

There is something for everyone to see and explore on this 4th. generation family farm, owned and operated by David & Leslie Meuer! March starts out with the farm making maple syrup. The maple syrup season goes for about a month, and the public is welcome to stop out anytime for a taste and to watch. Once maple syrup season ends, work begins to ready the 5 acres of strawberries for picking in June and July. Work starts by uncovering the berry plants from their straw covered bed, and soon after our honey bees are put out in different locations here on the farm. Pick-Your-Own and pre-picked strawberries are ready in June and early July. July and August is fresh pre-picked Wisconsin Blueberries, and then its fresh bi-color sweet corn. August is new crop honey being harvested here, and then it's our 10 acre corn maze along with hayrides, farm animals, the activity area, and pumpkin picking during the months of Sept. and Oct. We are handicap accessible here at the farm, even the hayrides! Fieldtrips, weddings, tours and outings for companies and groups are available anytime. The fact that we are an active, operating farm means visitors get to see planting, harvesting, cows calving, and all other aspects of farm life that are going on here on the farm all during the year.

Once a month from May thru Sept., join in on our "Farm Flavors" farm dinner series. Experience a different guest restaurant/chef preparing a 3-5 course fancy dinner on location, accompanied by a special event each month.  Reservations are required.

Chilton, WI

Spurgeon Vineyards & Winery

Highland, WI
Spurgeon Vineyards & Winery

Spurgeon Vineyards & Winery is located in the beautiful hills of Southwest Wisconsin. It is the nature of hills to drain away cold and water thus rendering the hilltops an excellent location to grow grapes. The winery is nestled in the valley below. Spurgeon Vineyards offers free wine sampling, a chance to relax on the deck, or a tour the facilities. In 1977, owners Glen and Mary Spurgeon planted corn on the hilltops as well as a half row of grapes. In 1978 they made a serious dent in the planting of their vineyards by putting in 5 acres of grapes. This was followed by a 5 acre planting in 1979, another 5 acre planting in 1981 and a final acre in 1982. Each of those acres contains 600 or more vines.
